Lead Java Spark and Big Data Developer - Vice President

As a Lead Java, Spark and Big Data Engineer, you will architect and deliver large-scale, distributed technology solutions that process massive volumes of data for one of the world's largest financial institutions. Working within Citi's global technology organization, you will shape architecture decisions, build high-performance applications using Java and Apache Spark, and guide software delivery from design through production. This hands-on leadership role offers the opportunity to influence technology strategy and solve complex engineering challenges that support critical business functions worldwide.   Responsibilities - Lead the architecture, design, and development of large-scale, high-performance applications using Java, Apache Spark, and Big Data technologies. - Shape technical strategy and influence architecture decisions across multiple platforms and applications. - Drive modernization initiatives that advance cloud-ready architectures, microservices transformation, and engineering automation. - Design distributed data processing solutions that handle high-volume, high-velocity datasets. - Build scalable APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions that support enterprise-wide platforms. - Own end-to-end software delivery from solution design through production deployment and ongoing support. - Strengthen performance, reliability, and operational stability by implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and rigorous code and design reviews. - Mentor engineers and collaborate with architects, product owners, and global technology partners to advance engineering standards and adopt emerging technologies. Required Qualifications & Skills - 13+ years of software engineering experience, including deep expertise in enterprise-scale Java application development. - Hands-on proficiency in Core Java (8, 11, or 17+), Apache Spark, distributed computing, and large-scale data processing. - Working knowledge of microservices architecture and RESTful API design for enterprise platforms. - Solid grounding in software design patterns, object-oriented design, and scalable architecture practices. - Skilled in SQL and database performance tuning for high-throughput systems. - Familiarity with Git, JIRA, Confluence, and CI/CD platforms within modern software development lifecycle processes. - Ability to lead complex technical initiatives, influence engineering decisions, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Beneficial Skills & Qualifications - Exposure to Big Data ecosystem tools such as Hadoop, Hive, HBase, or Kafka. - Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. - Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes. - Experience with event-driven architecture and streaming technologies. - Background in financial services, capital markets, or other regulated industries.
